Dental hygienist at Ocean Dental in Lompoc CA performing a professional dental cleaning on a patient, promoting oral hygiene and a healthy smile.

Most dentists recommend scheduling a professional dental cleaning every six months to maintain optimal oral health. Routine visits allow dental hygienists to remove plaque and tartar buildup that brushing and flossing cannot fully eliminate while also helping detect cavities, gum disease, or other issues early.

At Ocean Dental, routine teeth cleanings and checkups are essential to maintaining strong, healthy teeth and gums.

Professional cleanings remove plaque and tartar buildup that daily brushing and flossing can’t completely eliminate, helping to prevent cavities, gum disease, and other oral health issues. These visits also help keep your smile looking bright and fresh.

More importantly, regular checkups give Dr. Dahlquist the chance to detect early signs of dental problems such as tooth decay, gum disease, or even oral cancer while they’re still easily treatable. Catching issues early often leads to less invasive procedures and more effective, cost-efficient care.

These appointments also allow us to track any changes in your oral health, give you personalized hygiene tips, and keep existing dental work up to date.

By making regular cleanings and exams a priority, you’re taking a proactive step toward maintaining your smile’s health, comfort, and appearance for years to come.

At Ocean Dental, our experienced dental services in Lompoc, CA, perform thorough cleanings by carefully removing both plaque and tartar from your teeth. While plaque a soft, sticky film can typically be managed with daily brushing and flossing, tartar is hardened plaque that requires professional tools for safe and effective removal. We pay close attention to all surfaces of your teeth, especially those hard-to-reach areas between teeth and along the gumline where bacteria tend to collect.

To finish your cleaning, we often use a prophy paste a special polishing compound that starts out gritty to remove any remaining buildup and then becomes smoother to leave your teeth clean and polished. We’ll also point out any areas where plaque and tartar have accumulated, helping you target those spots more effectively at home.

Our goal is not only to give you a clean, healthy smile but also to empower you with the information and habits you need to maintain it between visits.
